The start of October saw the highly anticipated Estate Agency X 9 take place in the heart of London’s financial district. This annual event, now firmly established as a key highlight in the estate agent calendar, continues to stand out for its focus on new ideas and innovation within the industry. With a packed agenda, Estate Agency X 9 attracted agents eager to explore forward-thinking strategies rather than rehashing traditional industry practices.

The event opened with a keynote by Mark Burgess, best-selling author and CEO of Iceberg Digital, whose reputation for challenging the status quo in the estate agency world is well known. Burgess spoke passionately about the need for agents to embrace change and innovation, emphasising how the industry has now started to split down the middle as he predicted way back in 2018 and faces significant risks without adaptation. His speech was a call to action, urging agents to take charge of their futures by embracing new technologies and practices that would keep them competitive in an evolving market.

One of the most anticipated highlights of the day was a fireside chat between Burgess and Daniel Priestley, one of the UK’s most prominent entrepreneurs. Priestley, whose recent appearance on Stephen Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast catapulted him to new levels of recognition, brought his wealth of knowledge about building successful businesses to the stage. Since his first appearance at Estate Agency X in 2018, Priestley has become a favourite among attendees, and this year was no exception. In the fireside chat, Priestley shared his thoughts on how businesses are evolving to thrive in today’s economy, while Burgess expertly connected these insights back to estate agency, posing questions from the audience to foster deeper engagement. Priestley emphasised the importance for business to find groups of likeminded people on the same journey as them to hang out with and that almost all successful companies now are data companies in some way.

A notable addition to the day’s agenda was the inclusion of two panel discussions that featured high-performing agents sharing their own journeys. The afternoon sessions saw two more guest speakers take the stage, each offering a fresh perspective on success in the estate agency sector. Mike Symes, former CEO of Bank of New York Financial, delivered an eye-opening talk on the importance of brand in high-level business, drawing parallels to the estate agency industry. Following Symes was Ian MacBeth, co-founder of Avocado, one of the UK’s most innovative estate agencies. MacBeth shared the remarkable story of how Avocado generated over £10 million in revenue in just four years, providing valuable lessons on growth, innovation, and market disruption.

The event culminated in a powerful closing address from Burgess, who laid out specific, actionable steps that agents could take immediately to future-proof their businesses. Using the advanced techniques in Lifesycle, the AI to build dynamic websites using Neuron and the development of running an Estate Agency and transforming it into a high performing business using their 12-month business accelerator program. To wrap up the day, a thought-provoking and emotional short film about the future of the estate agency industry was shown, leaving attendees inspired and motivated.
