Self-Driving Cars Begin Delivering Uber Eats
Technology is increasing at rapid pace both in and around our industry. Uber Eats orders are now arriving via Waymo's self-driving cars. Read more about the dawn of autonomous delivery!

The bustling streets of Phoenix are set to witness the future of food delivery unfold, as Uber Eats customers may soon hear the hum of a Waymo self-driving car approaching with their latest order.
This partnership isn't just a one-off experiment; it's the manifestation of a broader, multiyear collaboration between Uber and Waymo announced last year. And while October saw Uber incorporating Waymo’s self-driving technology for passenger rides in Phoenix, the focus now shifts to your doorstep, with meals arriving driver-free.

Phoenix has become the seventh location for Uber Eats to introduce autonomous deliveries, yet it’s the first to feature the sleek Waymo vehicles. With an existing repertoire of collaborations with robotics companies like Cartken, Motional, Nuro, and Serve Robotics, Uber Eats is no stranger to the autonomous delivery scene. However, the integration of Waymo’s self-driving cars is a significant leap forward.
For the initial phase, the service will be exclusive to certain neighbourhoods—namely Phoenix, Chandler, Mesa, and Tempe. A curated selection of merchants from these areas will pioneer this avant-garde delivery system. While the service area list is expected to expand rapidly, with more restaurants joining the fold, the promise of wider availability teases a future where autonomous deliveries are the norm.
In an age conscious of emissions and sustainability, this service is not only about convenience but also represents a commitment to zero-emission journeys. As a bonus for early adopters, standard fees will be in place, but without the customary tip, as there’s no driver to reward.
