Moving CRM used to mean leaving something behind. Not anymore.

Moving CRM used to mean disruption, complexity and the fear of losing years of valuable data. Not anymore. One customer recently moved years of Alto data into Lifesycle in minutes, turning their history into the foundation for a more intelligent way of working.

There is a strange problem with CRM software. The longer you use it, the harder it feels to leave.
It isn't necessarily because you love the software. It's because of everything you've accumulated inside it.
Years of contacts, properties, valuations, viewings, offers, applicants, vendors, transactions, notes and relationships. All that history represents years of building your business, and over time it can start to feel as though your business is tied to the system holding it.

So even when an agency knows there may be a better way to operate, changing CRM can feel like an enormous decision.

What happens to all our historical data? How long will the migration take? What will we lose? How disruptive will it be? Will everything come across properly? And even if it does, will years of valuable information simply end up sitting in another database?
For a long time, those have been perfectly reasonable concerns.
But something has changed.

Years of Alto data. Moved in minutes.

We recently moved a customer from Alto to Lifesycle.
They weren't starting from scratch. They had years of accumulated CRM history, and that data was moved into Lifesycle in minutes.
That's impressive in itself, because it changes the perception of how difficult moving CRM needs to be. But the speed of the migration isn't actually the part I find most interesting.
It's what happens to that history once it arrives.
Because Lifesycle isn't simply somewhere new to store your old CRM data. That history can become part of the context Lifesycle uses to understand your business.
A contact can connect with a property. A property can connect with a previous valuation. Valuations, viewings, offers and historical activity can contribute to a richer picture of the relationship your agency has had with that person or property over time.
Information that has accumulated over years doesn't simply have to sit there as an archive. It can start contributing to your understanding of what is happening in the business today.
And that changes the conversation about CRM migration completely.

Your history should become more valuable

Traditionally, a successful CRM migration has largely been judged by preservation. Can we get the data out of the old system, get it into the new one and make sure nothing important disappears along the way?
Of course, those things still matter enormously. But I think the ambition should now be much higher.
The question shouldn't simply be whether your new CRM can store your history. It should be whether it can do more with what your business already knows.
This is where the difference between data and intelligence starts to matter.
A contact isn't valuable simply because their name exists in a database. The valuable part is everything around that contact.
Who are they? What property are they connected to? Have you valued it before? What have they enquired about? What have they viewed? What has happened previously? What does the history of that relationship tell you?
Then, as new conversations, interactions and behaviour are added, what appears to be changing?
This is why we keep coming back to one of the most important principles behind what we're building at Lifesycle:
AI is only as intelligent as the context you give it.
And years of historical CRM data can be an incredibly valuable part of that context.
Which creates quite an interesting reversal.
For years, an agency might have looked at the enormous amount of information sitting inside its existing CRM and thought, “We can't move. There's too much here.”
Now I think there is another question worth asking.
“What could we do with all of this if it was inside a more intelligent system?”
The history that once felt like an anchor keeping you attached to your existing CRM can instead become part of the foundation for what comes next.

Moving should feel like moving forward

Changing the central system inside an estate agency should never be treated casually. Your data matters, your customers matter and your team's ability to keep operating matters.
But changing CRM shouldn't mean choosing between protecting your past and improving your future.
Our recent Alto migration was a great example of just how different that experience can now be. Years of data moved into Lifesycle in minutes, preserving the history the agency had built up and allowing that information to become part of a much richer intelligence picture.
So if you're using Alto and have thought about moving, but the thought of migrating years of data has always stopped you, perhaps it's worth looking at the decision again.
Because the question is no longer simply:
What will we lose if we move?
There's a much more interesting question:
What could we gain from everything we already know?
